The Sculpture of Portmeirion : A Visual Guide - Diane Bilbey
Product Description
The Sculpture of Portmeirion : A Visual Guide - Diane Bilbey
Rather like Portmeirion itself, much of the research for this guide has been assembled from bits and pieces, including written correspondence, museum and other third-party records, press clippings, family photographs, and so on. Where provenance is known, it is stated.
A catastrophic fire in the Portmeirion Hotel in 1981 destroyed a substantial amount of archival material, which is partly why many objects are unattributed, or hard to identify with certainity - although it is likely that in some cases no records were kept. The origins and descriptions of numerous items are therfore reliant on supposition, speculation and educated guesswork.
"There's a lovley statue from Stowe, and other ones that I've either been given or that I've found, because people have been very generous in offering things for Portmeirion which is much appreciated..." Clough Williams-Ellis
