GPSR Update on EU & Northern Ireland orders
-
We have some sad news for our EU and Northern Ireland customers.
You may have read recently about GPSR and the changes it brings to how the UK sells products into the EU and Northern Ireland. The General Product Safety Regulations (GPSR) are taking effect on 13th December and this unfortunatley means we will have to temporarily suspend all services to our EU and Northern Ireland customers.
GPSR is basically replacing older safety regs and are being put in place to ensure that all sales placed in the EU meet modern safety standards. This is great as obviously safety is paramount and we want to ensure we are fully compliant. However the GPSR means all businesses selling products (‘Product’ means any item intended for consumers or likely to be used by consumers, whether in return for payment or free of charge), must have an Authorised Representative based in the EU/NI who acts as a compliance contact and ensures the products meet EU requirements. At the moment, we do not have the resources to fulfil this but we are working with our couriers to explore how they will be able to assist with this new requirement.
This isn't something we wanted to do but there is very little information available about how UK businesses can continue operating within the European & Northern Ireland markets at the moment.
To avoid non-compliance, we have had to temporarily suspend all EU and Northern Ireland services with immediate effect.
If any orders do manage to come through in the meantime, we're afraid we will have to cancel and refund as we cannot fulfil them with the new GPSR compliance.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for your support over the years and how much we value your continued custom choosing to shop with us.
Once we have navigated our way through the new compliance regulation, we do hope to see our EU and Northern Ireland customers again. In the menatime, please email us for any updates or queries at : info@portmeiriononline.co.uk

Sara Miller Signature Jewellery Range - Now available online
-
We here at Portmeirion Online have always admired Sara Miller’s love of playful prints, vibrant patterns and exquisite use of colour.
As an award-winning British designer, she has always been inspired by her adventures around the globe. From the intricate decorative craftsmanship in táhe palaces of Jaipur to the sensational Sakura cherry blossom in Japan, she is passionate about exploring the world and bringing that inspiration to her London studio, where she translates it to produce truly beautiful, sophisticated and elegant designs.
Sara Miller London are recognised for their use of rich textures and vivid colours, as is evident with her new and beautiful jewellery and watch ranges available on our website and our village shops.
Sara says “I’ve always loved jewellery and with our design style being so delicate and feminine it felt like a natural progression for us to design a jewellery range. As with our prints, the different pieces have a sense of storytelling, and our love for pattern and colour is beautifully captured – especially in our watch collection. The delicate gold detail achieved within the dials is gorgeous and I am so proud of the unique and distinctive collection we have created.”
Our personal favourite is the Sara Miller Love Bird necklace, bracelet and earrings, available in rose gold, silver and gold. They make the perfect gift for a loved one or a payday treat for yourself!

Prisoner Shop Portmeirion Village Official Opening
-
On Saturday the 12th of June The Prisoner Shop in Portmeirion celebrated its 20th anniversary. Read Roger Langley’s report below of the official opening of The Prisoner Shop Portmeirion Village
On Saturday 12th June the new Prisoner Shop opened in Portmeirion. Robin Llywelyn arranged a champagne reception, with invited guests. The premises has been extensively refurbished, with stone floor, new French windows and fitted display cases and units. In addition, the hotel was offering its own exclusive range of souvenirs. A new book on The Prisoner had been commissioned by the hotel.
A large Rover balloon, several Prisoner ‘extras’ with their original badges, TV crew and an assortment of journalists and photographers were assembled. Robin made an opening speech, embracing the history of The Prisoner in Portmeirion, letters written to his grandfather and to himself by Patrick McGoohan, and found memories of so many local people.
Robin invited Roger Langley to say a few words and the address which followed touched upon the history of Six of One, its close association with the ‘Village’. Roger’s book ‘The Prisoner In Portmeirion’ was officially launched at the shop opening. Robin referred to the new work, stating ‘We are very proud to be associated with it production’
Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas, presiding officer of the Welsh National Assembly, Huw Ediwn Jones of the Gwynedd Film Unit and Amelia Bedford from Carlton TV all echoed the sentiments of so many people originally involved in The Prisoner and other enthusiasts ready to enjoy the shop and the annual convention.
Decorative ribbon around the shop was cut by Lord Elis Thomas who pronounced the shop officially open. Robin thanked Roger and Six of One for supporting the event and hoped that a partnership between hotel and society will create a solid basis for the future meetings and shop promotions from now and into the next millennium.

5 Things you probably didn't know about Tea!
-
Another week is almost complete and all orders for this week have been despatched. It’s not quite a 'feet up, cuppa tea moment' but it's definitely time for a tea! Tea reminds us to slow down, to focus and can help stimulate creativity. My 'panad' as we call it in welsh is certainly helping me to unwind after a hectic week!
How clued up are you about Tea? Do you have a favourite mug and a favourite type of tea? Become a Tea guru with these Tea facts;
1. All tea comes from the same plant.
Whether black tea, white tea, oolong tea, green tea, or pu-erh tea, it all comes from the camellia sinensis plant. Oxidation, processing, and other factors give these types their distinctive colours and flavours. Other so-called teas, such as herbal (chamomile, peppermint, etc.), mate, and rooibos (also known as “red tea”) are more correctly called tisanes.
2. Afternoon Tea.
The tradition of having afternoon tea, or “high tea,” is thought to have been popularised by Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, a friend of Queen Victoria. It was meant to be a substantial snack between the morning meal and the evening meal—with a side of gossip. (Check out our lush, lavish Afternoon Tea menu here; https://portmeirion.wales/images/eat-page/amser_te_gwesty_2016_updated.pdf)3. Tea is the second most popular drink worldwide, after water.
Whilst some may favour coffee, tea is still the most common drink worldwide, second only to water.4. Tea has more caffeine than coffee.
Pound per pound, tea leaves contain more caffeine than coffee. However, we use much less tea to make a cup of tea than to make a cup of coffee, so the overall caffeine content in a cup of tea is usually less than in a cup of coffee.5. Tea Bags.
The United States invented tea bags in 1904 - by accident! An American tea merchant used silk bags to send samples to his customers. The customers mistakenly thought the bags were meant to replace traditional metal infusers, and placed them whole inside their pots.
You may not quite me a tea master yet, but if you've got this far reading, you're as intrigued as we are about Tea!
