Dechreuodd y cyfan yn 1984, pan oedd Emma yn gweithio yn Llundain yn fuan ar ôl gadael y brifysgol. Un diwrnod, roedd hi'n hela am anrheg pen-blwydd i'w Mam. Roedd hi eisiau rhoi dau gwpan a soser iddi a fyddai'n dweud 'Rwy'n dy garu di. Rwy'n colli chi'. Aeth i mewn i siop lestri ac edrych o gwmpas, gan obeithio gweld rhywfaint o lestri a fyddai'n dal ysbryd cynnes a chroesawgar cegin ei mam yng Ngogledd Rhydychen. Ond yn y dyddiau hynny, roedd yn ymddangos mai dim ond dau gynnig oedd gan y stryd fawr Brydeinig: blasus a ffurfiol neu gadarn a phenderfynol unrhamantaidd. Yn sydyn cafodd Emma weledigaeth o'r dreser o gegin ei mam. Fe'i dychmygodd yma yn y siop lestri, yn llawn amrywiaeth hyfryd o grochenwaith lliwgar, heb ei gyfateb. Roedd yn amlwg mai'r unig ffordd i wireddu'r weledigaeth fyddai dechrau gwneud llestri ei hun. Ond doedd ganddi ddim syniad sut - na ble.
Fe wnaeth sgwrs achlysurol gyda ffrind ei phwyntio i gyfeiriad Stoke-on-Trent. Ac felly, ganed Emma Bridgewater, y brand crochenwaith modern clasurol. Dros y tri degawd diwethaf, rydym wedi aros yn driw i ysbryd y foment wreiddiol, ysbrydoledig honno: yr angen i gael y meddwl a'r dyluniad yn hollol gywir.
