La Fabbrica della Pasta di Gragnano
Known worldwide for its PGI pasta, Gragnano's history began in the 13th century, when more than 30 mills ground wheat along the Vernotico River. Over the centuries, the tradition was enriched by 'sanzari' - people who acted as middlemen when selling the pasta - by 'fusillaie' - women who made the various shapes - and by artisans who dried the pasta on bamboo canes in Via Roma. The unique climate, influenced by winds from the Lattari Mountains and the Gulf of Sorrento, allowed the growth of the first large pasta factories in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, making Gragnano an internationally renowned production center with about a hundred factories as early as 1872. The custodians of a tradition of more than 500 years, we continue to preserve and hand down centuries-old production techniques from generation to generation to ensure the highest quality pasta.
