View from Chantry, Meryl Watts, pencil & watercolour, 1947

Meryl Watts (1910-1992) first exhibited her work in 1937. In 1943 her parents' London house was damaged by bombs and her father's printing works destroyed. Their circle of acquaintances included Clough William Ellis who arranged for the family to be evacuated to Portmeirion where they stayed for five years. Meryl Watts painted several architectual studies and landscapes while at Portmeirion which capture the magical and electric nature of CLough WIlliam Eliis' village. She was a member of The Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and the Graphic Arts Society

"This print is really lovely, great quality and arrived packaged very well. It’s an excellent choice of print, a window into Portmeirion’s past using simple lines and authentic methods. There’s a lovely feel to this print. "
