The Sophie Conran for Portmeirion collection is cast in highest quality, pure porcelain and coated in a rock hard, translucent glaze. The result is an extremely strong and durable range with each and every porcelain item able to go from being fully frozen to a hot oven and then straight to the table. In addition, every piece is microwave and dishwasher safe.
The following care and use guidelines have been put together to make sure you get the very best from your items.
Everyday use
All items have been designed to be multi-functional and easy to handle, stack and store. Don't be afraid to use the items for cooking or serving different foods. For example, the round serving platter is great to cook but also to serve pizza. Use the lasagne dish to roast your meat and then use it, full of those wonderful juices, to make tasty gravy on the hob. Forget frying pans, use the 6 pint casserole to fry onions and garlic, brown the meat, then add stock, vegetables and some wine, pop into the oven. Voila; casserole without the washing up.
From freezer to oven to table
Every porcelain piece is so strong they go from fully frozen directly into the roasting temperature of your oven and then straight on to your table - even the mugs. Maximum conventional oven temperature 252°C (486°F) / UK Gas Mark 9. The flat bottom pieces, including the low casserole, rectangular roasting dish and round pie dish, can also be used on the electric hob or hotplates (electric, Aga, Rayburn etc) but DO NOT place an empty dish on an electric hob or hot plate or allow contact with naked flames or use on gas hobs (burners).
Dishwasher safe
Every porcelain item can be thrown into the dishwasher after a sumptuous dinner or when the party is over. Then put the dishwasher powder in, turn it on and forget about it. Always follow your dishwasher manufacturer's specific instructions and scrape solid food particles from the dishes before loading into the machine.
Load the baskets with the dirty articles as follows:
- Do not overload the baskets and make sure that the items do not touch each other. Lightly soiled and smaller items should be stacked in the upper basket.
- Cups and mugs should be stacked upside down in the upper basket.
- Heavily soiled items and larger plates, casseroles and other large cookware items should all be placed in the lower basket.
- Cutlery should be stacked in the cutlery basket. Knives, forks and spoons should be mixed up and loaded with their handles downwards.
- Ensure that the spray arms can rotate and that nothing will prevent them from rotating.
- Fill the detergent dispenser with Finish dishwasher detergent, according to the dosage instructions on the pack.
- Select the correct programme for the wash load according to the manufacturer's instruction book.
Microwave - for fast, everyday living
Ideal for fast, everyday living, Sophie Conran for Portmeirion ceramic ware can be used in the microwave. Be safe! When microwave cooking the surfaces of the ware may become hot. Please take care when removing the dish from the oven. In line with microwave oven manufacturers it is recommended that Portmeirion ceramic products should only be used in a microwave oven when they contain food or liquids. Microwave ovens should not be used to 'warm' empty ceramicware items.
Wooden items
All wood items in this collection are made of hevea wood from the timber of the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, which is grown in sustainable forests.
Sophie Conran wooden products should be hand-washed and never soaked. We also recommend that you wash before use.
Glassware
Our glassware is of the best quality. We recommend that it is handwashed to keep the glass at its very best. However, Sophie Conran glass can be cleaned in a dishwasher but this may cause the glass to bloom.
Silverware
Sophie Conran salad servers are plated with pure silver and are coated with a special varnish which provides better protection to the finish. Wash in warm soapy water and wipe with a clean, soft, dry cloth after use. Always keep the products clean and dry. Sometimes it may be possible to observe slight shadows on the silver plated surface after the servers is placed in open air for a period of time. However, such shadows can be easily removed with a soft duster or with silver cleaning products. Never use polish abrasives or chemical cleaners.
Textiles
Sophie Conran textiles are kind to your skin and are 100% cotton. They should be washed in a washing machine at 40° and can be ironed. Textiles should not be dry cleaned or put in the tumble dryer. We also recommend that you wash similar colours together. As with all cottons, never place near to a naked flame or strong heat source.
